Forest School - Sports Hall
Phase 2 of a major extension to the existing four court Sports Hall at Forest School has completed the overall complex of sports facilities. Phase 1 consists of dry changing accommodation for all the inside and outside sports.
Phase 2, which forms a single seamless building with Phase 1, includes on the ground floor a large entrance hall leading to 2 new swimming pools – a 25m competitive pool and a smaller training pool for beginners – with associated pupil and staff wet changing facilities, a fitness room and office accommodation. At first floor level there are 2 full-size cricket nets in a designated area - Forest has a reputation for developing county and national cricketers – and a gym.
Externally the finishes are simple – walls built in a buff stock brick already used elsewhere in the school, with rendered façades and timber panels, helping to reduce the scale and adding visual interest to the elevations. Window frames and the shallow pitched roof, with wide overhangs, are grey powder-coated aluminium.
The new Sports Centre was opened by HRH The Duke of York in 2007.
