Greensleeves Homes Trust, operating as Greensleeves Care, is working in partnership with Rye Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital to provide a new 60-bed care home on this site on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Our design for this new low-energy, low-carbon home takes careful consideration of the AONB and the site’s topography. It draws inspiration from the landscape and is discreetly embedded into the slopping site, creating the appearance of a two-storey structure and minimising the visual impact.
Materials have been sensitively chosen: timber cladding to respond to the surrounding trees: stone cladding and render in line with the local vernacular.
What appeared at first sight to be an open greenfield site soon became tightly constrained by sightlines from neighbouring buildings, the urban development envelope and a pumped main sewer.
Establishing the site constraints early meant that we could maximise on the fantastic views across the hills and achieve a layout that sits naturally and comfortably on site.
