Rochester Riverside
Rochester is a fascinating town with a prominent cathedral and castle overlooking the River Medway.
Residents of this Anchor Hanover independent living scheme will enjoy riverside views at the heart of the award winning Rochester Riverside district. All 101 apartments are within walking distance of Rochester Eurostar station, and those on upper floors have panoramic views of the historic town centre and across the river.
Seen by the planners as a key landmark at the centre of the wider regeneration masterplan, the building puts residents at the heart of the new community.
Rochester has many historic buildings, and our design reflects its dockside position with details that echo those used in older buildings nearby. The prominent six storey southern corner uses local detailing with diagonal brick, stone cills and lintels. At ground floor a pale buff brick is used, referencing the Roman Dvrobriva wall typical of the historic town. Elevations facing Cory’s Creek are clad with a black Cedral boarding with shallow gables reflecting the historic dock buildings. To the north the 4-storey elements use a red brick with shallow gables and projecting balconies.
At ground floor level residents enter through a double height space and can enjoy the bistro overlooking the creek and activity at the centre of the new district. High quality landscaping in the central courtyard is usable by all residents.
