Broomfield Hospital Staff Accommodation

Following confirmation of Preferred Bidder Status, Tooley Foster were commissioned to undertake the design of accommodation for staff at the Mid-Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.

The accommodation consists of a total of 302 units, made up of 2 & 3-bedroom houses and 1 & 4-bedroom flats. The shared accommodation provides en-suite facilities for each bedroom, with communal kitchen, dining and living space for up to four occupants.

The main 3 and 4-storey buildings are designed to have open views across the adjacent countryside and each encloses a landscaped courtyard. Low-key paved parking areas are included within the courtyards, and footpaths are threaded between the buildings to encourage pedestrian and cyclist movements. The new houses are designed in a traditional style where located around the existing cluster of post-war houses, and elsewhere they are designed to act as a visual transition between this group and the contemporary main development.

The scheme was designed according to the British Medical Association’s standards.
