Heathfield School - Library Extension

This new library extension provides additional accommodation of 75m2 for book storage and study areas, also acting as a linking element between the three original library rooms. The three existing internal levels of the rooms are accessed via a series of ramps, set within the book storage area of the new building.

Externally the building has been designed to complement and visually link the two contrasting styles of the existing buildings, respecting the height of the lower building whilst reflecting the rhythm of the façade and colonnade of the main building.

With new full height glazed external doors providing daylight, views out, and occasional access for supervised outdoor study activities, the new building has been designed to provide good daylight levels to the new room, whilst maintaining, as far as possible, daylight levels in the existing rooms.

The new library building has a raised area of paving to give level access to internal areas. Steps, ramps and a new raised planter connect the new paved area with the surrounding grounds.
