This scheme – which is set within the St John’s Grove Conservation Area – had a long gestation period due to changes in funding and client. It is on the site of Keniston Housing Association’s area office, which had been derelict for many years.
The scheme provides 14 new family flats – 7 within the unused parking undercroft of the existing block of flats and 7 in the new L-shaped building on the corner of Junction Road.
Working closely with the Council’s Conservation Officer, we developed a design for the new building that completed the terrace and reinforced a corner that had been blighted by a tall blank wall.
We also created a new and improved entrance lobby within the existing building. The communal garden was redesigned in partnership with the residents and can be accessed from both the new and the old buildings.
