Beaconsfield Place
35 affordable retirement homes for local people in Thurrock
The historic port town of Tilbury on the eastern edge of London is located within the Thames floodplain. With increasing vulnerability to flooding all along the lower reaches of the Thames, the building was designed with raised homes on the ground floor above under croft parking, cleverly shielded from view by attractive façades to street level. To help achieve this a lightweight steel gauge construction was used; we oversaw the technical design and produced detailed working drawings to ensure the building was successful for both residents, the community and the Borough.
With a projected population growth of 20,000 people, Tilbury is one of six designated growth hubs in the borough of Thurrock. Beaconsfield Place meets a growing demand for sustainable living for local people aged over 55 and we were delighted to be asked by Kind&Co to help deliver the project for the council.
This new quality scheme delivers 35 affordable, one- and two-bedroom flats, in a mix of three and four storey blocks. It’s surrounded by a shared public courtyard and communal landscaped gardens. The Scheme was nominated for ‘Best older peoples housing development (rural/suburban)' at the Inside Housing Development Awards in 2022.
