Hallmark Care Homes has begun construction of a luxury 84-bedroom care home on Wellbrook Way in Girton, Cambridge, with newly-formed contractors Goldfinch Developments. Multi-award winning Hallmark continuously strives to improve the already excellent quality of its care homes and this new home, designed by The Tooley & Foster Partnership, will have outstanding facilities.
Scheduled to complete in early 2018, the home will provide residential, nursing and dementia care and will promote an environment where older people can thrive and live in dignity.
Each bedroom will have an en-suite bathroom and those on the ground floor will have access to their own patio. The accommodation is arranged to form social groups of 10-12 residents, each group with its own communal lounge, dining areas and nurse base. Other communal facilities will include café/bistro, cinema, hair salon, therapy room and high quality landscaped gardens.
The building has been designed in the shape of an ‘H’ with 2 and 3-storey wings. The ‘H’ plan creates two courtyards, one of which forms part of the main entrance area.
Khosro Bashi, of The Tooley & Foster Partnership, said: “The local planners were keen to see a building that enhanced the streetscape. We have produced a coherent design that includes variety and interest while creating a sense of place and also responding to the local context. The exterior is a mixture of facing Cambridge buff brickwork and rendered white walls with a recycled slate roof.”
