Lady Eliz House

Lady Elizabeth House was a redevelopment of a very restricted backland site which now provides a total of 21 x 1-bedroom flats, and 8 x 2-bedroom flats, all with underfloor heating, in a mixture of 2 and 3-storey developments with the top-floor accommodation set within the roof space.

The client’s brief was to reflect the character of the large houses in the area and to provide a flagship building with state of the art facilities.

These include a respite care flat, a gym, spa pool, communal lounge/dining room, a bar and a central kitchen providing a restaurant service. Assisted bathing, hair & beauty and staff facilities are also all accommodated.

The flats were designed to provide full mobility and are equipped with adaptive technologies to allow residents to retain their independence whilst still being given the support that they need.

A proportion of the units are let by Housing Solutions at affordable rents.

  • Finalist, Pinders Healthcare Design Awards 2008, ‘Independent Living’
  • Published in Reading Council’s ‘Ageing Policy 2009’ as an example of Best Practice in the Sector

The Tooley & Foster Partnership won in a limited competition, this flagship project for a new Voluntary Aided Primary School for the Progressive Jewish Community in the London Borough of Redbridge.  In addition to the DfES and LEA requirements, the brief called for flexibility of use by the local community.

The site for Clore Tikva was a vacated allotment surrounded mainly by residential buildings.  The new complex comprises a Nursery and double-entry Reception, Infants and Junior Schools.

A number of environmental and energy saving devices have been incorporated, including a passive ventilation system, low energy light fittings, solar panels, rainwater recycling system and use of recycled materials in the landscaped and external play areas.
