The extension and refurbishment of 4 existing classrooms at Whitehall Primary School has provided new learning spaces for 5-6 year olds.
The works included careful demolition of areas of the existing building. The supportive steel columns, exposed as a result of the demolition, became internal columns within the newly-created larger classroom areas.
Internal alterations included extending the classrooms into existing shared areas by repositioning new improved-specification partitions, to meet necessary fire and sound requirement standards.
Externally, the extension consisted of traditional construction: brick and block cavity wall, aluminum doors and windows, brickwork cills in blue engineering, pitched roofs, soffits and fascias; all to match existing.
Existing skylight and high level windows were utilised to maintain natural light into the extended classrooms.
