Ryelands is the flagship Care Home for Methodist Homes, it is built on the site of their first ever Care Home. Being a building of such significance, TFP were asked by the client to work very closely with the existing residents so they felt a part of the design process. This resulted in a beautifully thought out 30-bedroom Care Home for frail elderly residents, with a wing of an additional 15 studio bedrooms for those suffering with dementia, full of light and homely facilities.
Open-plan living rooms feed directly from the main corridors with glass walls to create natural light to flood the inner spaces of the building. Well-lit seating areas at the ends of the corridors in the non-dementia areas give opportunity for rest and interaction while seating areas in the middle of the corridors in the dementia areas create turning circles as opposed to dead ends.
Warm colours and neutral tones used throughout the building create a feeling of warmth and home for the residents.
Ryelands was developed in phases to cause the minimum disruption to the residents, who moved in to the completed first section of the building allowing the old Home to be demolished and making way for additional bedrooms plus a block of 23 new retirement flats.
