Osmund Court in Billingshurst was one of the first DOH funded ‘all mod-cons’ Extra Care Retirement Housing schemes built under a partnership. The Partnership consists of Saxon Weald, Horsham Council, Horsham & Chanctonbury Primary Care Trust and West Sussex Social and Caring Services. It also acts as a community resource, providing day-centre services for local people to come in and use.
There are 35 x 1-bedroom flats at 51m² and 5 x 2-bedroom flats at 65m². 29 of the flats are affordable, 10 are shared ownership and 1 is used as a hospital discharge step-down facility and for respite accommodation.
The development is modern and airy with a range of facilities including a restaurant, treatment rooms and computer room. ‘Plug and play’ assistive technology is available to help people retain independence as their needs change, including window and curtain openers, movement detectors, flood detectors and temperature sensors. All the flats have full wheelchair access, video door entry systems and level-access showers.
