This was the first major scheme by Christian Action Housing Association to make use of off-site timber frame manufacture, as a model for their future high density schemes (400 habitable rooms per hectare) in urban locations.
The scheme consists of a 3-storey block containing 18 x 2-bedroom 4-person flats, together with a separate 2-storey block providing supported housing for 6 young people leaving care.
The site is prominently located on Oliver Road where we wanted to create a good quality contemporary building which would enhance the streetscape.
The buildings are contained under a profiled metal mono-pitch roof, except at the ends where the roof reverts to a duo-pitch roof to soften the relationship to the adjoining properties. The eaves have an aerofoil type section with vertical metal cladding panels below.
