Anchor commissioned The Tooley & Foster Partnership to draw up detailed proposals for a development of 75 assisted living apartments for the elderly.
The development has been designed with lower elements and larger landscaped spaces towards the existing bund to maintain its open aspect and so the building scale rises away from the front to the middle and rear of the site.
The entrance opens into a tall atrium space that allows views through into the communal spaces and courtyard garden beyond. Communal spaces are focussed around the entrance, atrium and main lift core to benefit from views across landscaped areas to the south and east. Likewise a communal roof terrace on top of the entrance element will provide long views across Kings Hill and the surrounding countryside.
The residential units extend away from the entrance and main lift core with glazed ends to corridors and lightwells at focal points to provide daylight deep into the building.
Each apartment has a terrace or balcony with roof terraces where possible at upper floors.
The design is contemporary but traditional local materials are used - predominantly red brick with artificial slate pitched roofs.
