Haven House Children’s Hospice provide a range of services including respite and end of life care to children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
To mark their 15th Anniversary, the Hospice have undertaken their largest ever development involving refurbishment to the locally listed White House and a new office building which have been procured simultaneously.
The refurbishment brief was to install a larger lift providing easier access to the bedrooms, rationalisation of care and staff offices, a new nurse’s station, new wet rooms and a new suite for teenagers. The Bereavement room needed moving closer to the family flat to provide greater privacy and circulation space was enlarged and made more accessible for wheelchairs.
On the Ground floor the brief was to transform existing office space into a café to provide a new social hub for staff and families to enjoy. With the proposed new café area, a new building was required to relocate the old offices. The brief for this new-build scheme was to provide a two-storey pavilion within the Hospice grounds accommodating up to 23 desk spaces, meeting rooms and staff facilities.
Both the White House alterations and new office building respond to the special requirements of the client and end-users whilst carefully considering the context of the existing historical building and woodland surroundings.
