This 66 bed flagship Home provides Nursing Care and Care for residents with Dementia – outlookcare.org.uk
The layout was developed to create interesting external garden spaces that orientate south and thus maximise sunshine penetration into the garden spaces and the building. A “wrap around” layout envelopes a central courtyard garden that is further subdivided to provide private areas for the different social groups who are living in the Home.
The design aims to create an environment in which older people retain maximum independence and choice. There is a focus on active participation whereby opportunities for meaningful engagement are centered on naturally occurring events within the Home such as meal preparation, laundry, cleaning and gardening.
At the heart of the scheme there is a community hub which includes large, airy rooms that can be used for a range of activities: a flexible meeting room, IT suite, coffee bar, hair salon, specialist bathing facilities, treatment room and a gym. Whilst these facilities are provided for the use and benefit of residents and their families, the aim is to ensure that the scheme is embedded within the community and the use of facilities by the community is encouraged.
Foxburrow Grange was officially opened by Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador Angela Rippon, on 5th July 2013.
Outlook Care's CEO - Client
"We chose Tooley & Foster to design our new Care Home, Foxburrow Grange in Colchester, Essex. They did a terrific job for us; they were creative, responsive and really listened to us. We wanted an architect who would work in partnership to design a Nursing Home that would really work for us on a practical level as well as looking beautiful and that is exactly what we achieved with their help. Their experience and advice were invaluable as this was our first Home and I think we received an excellent service. I should also mention they were extremely patient!"
