The original buildings were designed by The Tooley & Foster Partnership in association with Abbot Howard in the late 1960s.
East Herts District Council required an extension & new reception area for the public with a more prominent entrance, together with additional office space.
The main three-storey office block was extended by one structural bay with air-conditioned office areas on the upper floors.
The reception area includes a cash counter, meeting rooms, accessible toilet facilities, together with waiting areas and the main reception desk for all Council services.
The external materials, including metric modular (200 x 100 x 100) facing bricks and neoprene gasket glazed curtain walling system, were all carefully chosen to match the original.
The project was phased to allow all Council services to remain operational during the works, and also included refurbishment of core and external areas.
