This development of a Care Home and a block of Extra Care Apartments is built on the site of the existing Care Home and was phased to allow the residents to remain in situ during the rebuilding process.
Elmside Care Home consists of 65 bedrooms, of which 40 are for the frail and elderly, and 25 are for those suffering from dementia.
The design of the new Home and Apartments echoes the style of the original building and its materials, yet each new block retains its own separate identity.
The strong brick gable features, together with two-tone brick and rendered walls, provides an appearance very much in keeping with the local vernacular giving this building its traditional and domestic appearance.
Elmside’s facilities include a communal lounge, coffee shop, IT suite, library, hairdressing & therapy rooms and an ensuite guest room. All facilities are shared with the Care Apartments with the aim of developing a real community within the Care Centre.
Interaction between the two buildings has been encouraged by creating a large patio area outside the communal cafeteria which has a “Mediterranean” style garden planted to benefit from the southern orientation.
