Culverton Court - Main

Culverton Court is part of the reprovision of Mental Health Services across Buckinghamshire, moving people from bedsit accommodation in a communal building to 22 self-contained 1- bedroom flats, providing more privacy and encouraging residents to become more independent.

The buildings have been set into the steeply sloping site to minimise their impact on the surrounding properties. The design is domestic in scale with a residential appearance. The combination of a simple pallet of brick and render under a tiled roof provides a conducive environment for the residents. Each flat is a self-contained dwelling with is own front door, fully fitted kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. All the bathrooms can be converted to wet floor showers to become fully accessible for wheelchair users.

The lower block provides supported housing with a communal lounge, meeting room, office and sleepover accommodation. The stepped section creates a series of stairwells for the 8 x 1 - bedroom flats. This section has allowed the insertion of two additional 1-bedroom flats over the communal areas on the ground floor entered via an external staircase.

The upper building provides 4 independent living flats and 8 supported living flats. The communal lounge and dining facilities lead out onto a shared terrace between the two blocks. The communal kitchen / dining area allows residents and staff to cook together.
