The Coningsby Road development provides Supported Housing for people with learning difficulties and is situated on the side of a steeply sloping valley overlooking High Wycombe. This allowed for the construction of a 4-storey development comprising a lower ground floor that faces out to the rear of the site, with a further 3 storeys being visible from Coningsby Road.
Six flats are provided on 4 levels, together with a care manager’s office / sleepover room, a communal lounge with kitchen area, and rear communal garden. The site was previously occupied by a single-storey bungalow with a lower garden area.
The construction of the building is formed through the use of tanked reinforced concrete construction for the lower ground floor and retaining walls, with timber frame construction being incorporated from the ground floor level upwards.
The unique second floor flat is formed within the sloping roof of the building.
The building was constructed in accordance with Robust Construction details and achieved Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 through the implementation of a fabric first principle, with well insulated external walls, floors and roof.
