209 Romford Road feature

This project provides 19 flats for residents with long term mental health issues, providing them with independent living in a supported environment.

The buildings on Romford Road replace an existing Victorian villa, which the local authority had locally listed, and a block of 8 flats located in the rear garden.

Planning permission was granted at appeal, which affirmed that our design was a sound proposal, sensitive to its location within the existing street scene.

This scheme re-interprets the traditional square-bayed Victorian houses, using a contemporary mix of steel and aluminium bays with a light stock brick and render under a metal butterfly roof. It faces one of the major routes into Central London and is only some ½ mile from the Olympic Park.

The buildings are entered through a single-storey link containing communal facilities, which leads to a further block of seven flats to the rear of the site, incorporating some undercroft parking.
