Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Since 4 April 2016, it has been a requirement that BIM is used on all UK government projects – here at The Tooley and Foster Partnership we are well ahead of the game. We have been developing our Building Information Modelling capabilities since early 2006 and completed our first BIM compliant project in July 2015.

With a comprehensive BIM Protocol and Execution Plan in place, we continue to invest in hardware, software and training to support the developing strategies and requirements of the industry.

According to the National BIM Report 2016, 42% of construction professionals said that they were aware of BIM but not yet using it on projects, with 4% neither aware nor using it. As a BIM Level 2 practice, we firmly believe in the advantages of working collaboratively with other professionals.

BIM Breakfast at the Blue Fin Building

Tooley and Foster Partnership staff Michael Courtenay, David Wollaston and Caroline Brennan attended a BIM breakfast (Building Information Modelling) event ‘Standards in Plain Language’ hosted by Graphisoft. We were interested to hear lead presenter Rob Jackson, of Bond Bryan Digital and chair of the AEC (UK) BIM Technology Protocols sub-committee, sharing his experiences of some of the key UK and international standards related to BIM Level 1 and BIM level 2.

Rob also spoke about BIM implementation in design software templates and workflows.

Held on 20th April 2016 at the iconic Blue Fin theatre with fantastic views over London, it prompted lots of discussion amongst the diverse group of construction professionals about BIM and about the London skyline.
