TFP wins planning for modern extension to listed hotel
The Tooley & Foster Partnership has gained planning approval in the greenbelt for a new £20 million landmark building to sit as a pavilion opposite the historic Grade II listed Shendish Manor Hotel in Hemel Hempstead. Designed for Regency Homes, the contemporary design responds to the fields and woodland setting on the one side and the listed building on the other.
Tooley & Foster Partner Khosro Bashi said: “This new building does not seek to compete with the existing manorial-style hotel, but responds by an equally strong contemporary design.
“It is set tight into the existing tree belt at the perimeter of the grounds and has been designed with an organic tree-like structure in front of a very sleek and simple clear-glazed curtain wall envelope that reveals the vibrancy of the spaces and the activity within.”
It will provide an additional 30 bedrooms for the hotel plus a large conference/function space and a self-contained leisure centre with swimming pool, gym and treatment rooms.
